Many of us work an average of eight (8) hours a day five (5) days a week between the age of 18 to 65. The amazing fact about this is that we spend a total of 100,000 hours of our lifetime working. Can you then imagine doing something that doesn’t give you fulfilment? One of the keys to career fulfilment therefore is to enjoy what you're doing. It's burdensome to be doing what you don't like or created to do. It's totally frustrating and time wasting. And that's the reason many people are not productive in their work. When I said productive, I'm not talking about acquiring material possessions because even some that engage doing what they don't enjoy doing have been able to acquire cars, built houses and have the 'toys of life'. Productivity here is mind creativity; a sense of fulfilment, a sense of joy that comes from doing what you are wired or created to do. This is the difference between those working to make a living and those working to make an impact. There is a passion, an internal energy and strength that comes from within to do effectively and effortlessly whatever jobs you love doing and were created to do. And while others are looking for motivation, motivation is looking for you because you're far ahead doing your thing ebulliently.
And that's why for example, a teacher, who might not have all the material things of life but is wired to teach, always do his job breathlessly and enthusiastically even in the worst scenario. The teaching environment might not be conducive but he will always find his way, doing what he enjoys doing. He hardly ever gets discouraged. I've seen people like that and sure you've seen people like that too. Whether you're a teacher, a business man or woman, Accountant, Engineer, Architect or whatever career you're into, be sure you are working to make an impact not just a living. This keeps you away from job dissatisfaction and aggression which could be transferred to every other areas of your life.
This is the point, do what you enjoy doing. Career fulfilment may not be found but the truth is you can create one. I know someone is saying that's difficult especially in this country where you just have to get something doing to make ends meet. Yes, I agree, but the fact still remains that you rob yourself and your generation and even the generation unborn the impact you would have done if only you would do what you're wired to do. Explore the world of what is within you.
I heard of a man who was highly brilliant during his undergraduate days. He graduated and went into the oil industry where it was assumed that he was fulfilled because of the wealth he acquired; but deep inside him was the cry of an unfulfilled life. He was actually wired to impact people with knowledge-to teach people, and that's where his fulfilment lies. With all the wealth put aside, he resigned and looked for fulfilment in a lecturing job and sure he got it.
What matters to you, a life full of wealth with no sense of fulfilment or a life of fulfilment garnished with wealth? I choose the later because that's a sweet life you know! Let me know your choice too.
