Favour Demystified

Welcome to another Wednesday’s insight series.  I believe you are set to get another insight today so, let’s dive in.

Dictionary defines favour as an act of kindness done or granted out of goodwill. It is also to show preferential treatment to someone.
Favour is derived from the same root word as Grace, CHARIS. And this makes favour to be as powerful as grace. But while grace is totally unmerited and unearned, favour can be deserved, gained and entreated. There are two dimensions of favour; favour with God and favour with man. The greatest dimension is to be in favour with God because when you have that, favour with man comes cheaply.  You don’t beg for man’s favour when you are in favour with God, God himself will cause men to favour you-He will cause you to find favour with people regardless of how high and mighty they are.  Another truth about favour is that it does not have prejudice for colour, race, gender or location. You’re a candidate for favour as long as you are alive.  Besides, this favour is not dependent on how skilled you are, whether you are educated or not, God gives it freely. “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift…nor yet favour to men of skill…” Ecc.9:11.

So, what does favour do?

Favour is life. King David said “…in His favour is life…” Psalm 30:5. Which means your life is totally hinged on God’s favour. No wonder life can be so miserable for those lacking His favour.
Favour brings exaltation. Queen Esther was not the only virgin in the kingdom of Persia, in fact she might not be the most beautiful lady in town but something made the difference in her life that made her become the Queen out of all other ladies. It’s Favour. Favour open doors for you where others are turned down.

Favour commands victory in life. Everyone wants to be victorious but there is a secret to victory as expressed in Psalm 44:3 (NLT) “They did not conquer the land with their swords; it was not their own strength that gave them victory. It was by your mighty power that they succeeded; it was because You favoured them…” who favoured them? God and the result was VICTORY.

The favour of God beautifies destiny and add colour to a person’s life. I believe Mary was not the only virgin in Israel neither was Joseph the only man in the lineage of David that was engaged to a lady at that time. Someone could have said “Mary was such a lucky woman” but it was not luck. There was a factor behind it; and that factor was simply what the angel told Mary “…thou that art highly favoured…” Luke 1:28. Since then, Mary’s life was beautified.

Furthermore, Favour place you in positions you are not qualified for or don’t merit. You remember Joseph in the bible? From being the head in Potiphar’s house to being the head in the prison and finally became the prime minister in Egypt. That’s exactly how favour can place you in unmerited positions. Gen 39:3-5, 21-23.

There’s something about favour again. Favour colours your efforts, corrects your errors and covers your weaknesses. Paul, the great apostle declared “I am what I am by the grace of God” in other words “I am what I am by the favour of God”
Greatness in life, career, business and even ministry can be traced to favour. Remember the apostles in Acts 2:47. Scripture says they were in favour with all the people and many were added to the disciples. Simply put, their ministry was their “career” and “business” and they prospered by virtue of favour.

Now, how does favour come?

First, understand that everything God has is not for Himself, it is for us. He has favour but He doesn’t need favour. We are the ones that need His favour. And “Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else?” Rom 8:32.
Also, looking through the scriptures, I discovered that many people are enjoyed favour in life due to what their parent, spouse or someone connected to do them has done in time past. This simply means there are favours you will enjoy by virtue of what your parent or anyone connected to you has done in the past. In the same way, what you do today will not only attract favour to you but will also determine the favour that will be available to your children, your relatives and everything or everyone connected to you.

 Five Favour Magnets

  1. Righteousness- There’s something about the righteous; they enjoy continuous flow of favour. Psalm 5:2. You can’t be going against God and expect to win His favour. You must get right with God to enjoy His favour
  2. Wisdom- What is wisdom? Wisdom is practical application of knowledge gained through understanding. When you have an understanding of the word and you apply it, you attract favour. Pro 8:35. Pro 13:15.
  3. Be favourable unto others- What you sow is what you reap. Be good and kind to other people, give people what they are not due, and give them what they are not qualified for. And you know what will happen? You will enjoy the same in a multiplied state, pressed down, shaken together and running over. “A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD…” Pro.12:2
  4. Ask God for favour- What you don’t ask you are not entitled to receive. “Ask and you shall receive…everyone that ask, receive…”Matt.7:7,8. He is ever ready to lavish you with favour, just ask.
  5. And finally,” Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” Pro 18:22. So guys, finding a wife too bring favour. Don’t miss the favour attached to this.

I strongly believe that this is your time to be favoured. Connect with God’s favour daily and you will see how beautiful things will become in your life. God has not only spoken favour into your life, He delights in favouring you. YOU’RE FAVOURED.

God's Got You

I was on a trip recently and we drove into a difficult terrain. The driver did well by maneuvering the terrain well and got us safely out of it. However, during this drifting, I doubted his professionalism to get us out safely, in fact I panicked, I gave my opinions and advise based on my experience of driving. Unfortunately, my driver will do the opposite, stating reasons why my counsel will not work and truthfully, his judgement always proves to be right and at the end he drove us safely to our destination. This experience got me to think of how many times we have given God our thoughts and advice on what he should do or should have done. We tell him the direction we feel is right for us to go and at times drag the steering with Him. God is to be trusted. The moment you make him the driver of your life, you can trust him to take you safely to a glorious destination. The terrain may be difficult, He might drive you through surprising and difficult places, just hold on and trust him. H

House of Leaders or Warlords

As I ruminate on the ugly incidences that bewildered Benue House of assembly and the House of Representatives this outgoing week where law makers engaged in a free for all, I nodded my head in utmost dismay of what has become of the people we chose to lead us and make laws for us. This is not the first time we will be seeing something of such but every time it occurs it leaves a negative impression of incompetence, immaturity, clueless and law-less law makers on the heart of Nigerians and people all over the world watching.  I'm not a political analyst neither do I want to become one but i'm an advocate of good 'leaders-in-a-ship' and I believe that what the nation deserves at this time is a way forward from where we are not engaging in blow throwing and cloth tearing. Leadership is not by occupying position, that is, you are not a leader by being in an office or by holding a post. Leadership is all about influence. Its all about the ability to transform a vi
